Huawei’s developer portal has been updated with fresh data on the API version distribution across HarmonyOS devices. As of August 20, 2026, the figures reveal the current landscape of OS versions in active use, offering valuable insights for developers in determining compatibility targets for their applications.
The latest statistics show a significant adoption of HarmonyOS 6.1.1 (API version 24), which now accounts for a dominant 84.93% of devices. This marks a substantial increase, while the previous version, 6.1.0 (API version 23), has seen its share decrease to 7.69%.
Combining these two recent versions, devices running HarmonyOS 6.1.0 (23) and above collectively represent 97.27% of the total user base. This indicates that versions below HarmonyOS 6.1 (excluding 6.1) now constitute a small fraction, approximately 2.73%.
Interestingly, several earlier versions of HarmonyOS 5.0.0 have reached a zero percent usage share. These include API versions 5.0.0 (12) through 5.0.3 (15). Even the highest version within the 5.X era, 5.1.1 (API version 19), holds a minimal 0.11% share.
Amidst these updates, the newly released HarmonyOS 7.0.0 Beta2 (API version 26.0.0 Beta2) has made an early impact, capturing 4.65% of the device share. This rapid uptake of a beta version suggests keen developer interest and testing.
Key Features of HarmonyOS 7 Beta
HarmonyOS 7 was officially launched on June 12, with the Beta 1 version of the developer kit (26.0.0 Beta1) made available during the HDC 2026 conference. This latest beta iteration builds upon the foundation of HarmonyOS 6.1.1 (24), introducing several enhancements:
- Enhanced Material Effects: Deeper integration of component material effects for a more immersive light and sensory experience.
- Core File Kit Improvements: Sandbox directory sharing is now system-level visible, improving file management capabilities.
- Device Security Kit Advancements: Strengthened ‘Star Shield’ engine and enhanced super privacy control features.
- Graphics Accelerate Kit: Introduction of pre-launch features to optimize application startup, particularly for games.
- Notification Kit Enhancements: More robust notification management and display options, including support for semi-modal notification settings access.
- ArkWeb Update: The Chromium kernel for ArkWeb has been upgraded from version 132 to 144, bringing performance and security improvements.
These updates in HarmonyOS 7 aim to provide developers with more powerful tools and capabilities, fostering the creation of richer and more seamless user experiences across Huawei’s ecosystem.
The consistent release of API data by Huawei is crucial for developers. It allows them to make informed decisions about which API versions to support, ensuring their applications remain compatible with the vast majority of HarmonyOS devices while also exploring the potential of newer features. The growing share of recent API versions indicates a healthy update cycle and a proactive user base eager to adopt the latest advancements.
