Huawei’s latest operating system, HarmonyOS 7, has officially launched, and with it comes a significant upgrade to its Game Assistant feature. During the HarmonyOS 7 | HUAWEI Mate XT 2 and All-Scenario New Product Launch event on September 7th, the new OS was unveiled, promising enhanced experiences for users.

Currently, public beta testing for HarmonyOS 7 is underway on devices like the Huawei Mate 80 series, MatePad Edge, and MateBook Pro. Enthusiasts can also get early access through the Fan Beta program on devices including the Mate 60 series, MatePad Pro 13.2-inch 2025, and WATCH GT 7.

IT之家 has conducted tests on the HarmonyOS 7 system, revealing a suite of new features within the Game Assistant designed to optimize the gaming experience. These enhancements aim to provide smoother gameplay, better visual fidelity, and improved power management, though some advanced options may impact battery life and generate heat.

Performance Enhancements in HarmonyOS 7 Game Assistant

The Game Assistant in HarmonyOS 7 introduces several new modes for performance tuning:

  • Touch Response: Users can choose between ‘Standard’ and ‘Intelligent Enhancement’ modes. The ‘Intelligent Enhancement’ option aims to improve responsiveness for a more immediate feel, but it might lead to increased battery consumption and heat.
  • Frame Rate: Two settings are available: ‘Standard’ and ‘Intelligent Frame Stabilization’. ‘Intelligent Frame Stabilization’ works to maintain a consistent frame rate, reducing stuttering and minimizing power drain and heat. For certain games, a ‘Super Frame Rate’ mode is also offered, which can push frame rates beyond the in-game settings, albeit with potential increases in battery usage and heat.
  • HDR: The new ‘Intelligent HDR’ mode enhances the contrast between light and dark areas, bringing out more detail in challenging visual scenes. This feature is new to HarmonyOS 7 and may also contribute to higher power consumption and heat.
  • Super Resolution: This groundbreaking feature allows for an increase in image clarity. By selecting ‘Super Resolution,’ gamers can expect sharper visuals, though, similar to HDR, it might affect battery life and device temperature.

Note: The ‘Super Resolution’ and ‘Intelligent HDR’ features require HarmonyOS version 7.0.0.102 or later and an App Assistant version of 16.4.1.300 or later. Availability is limited to specific device models and games.

Additional Game Tools for an Uninterrupted Experience

Beyond performance tuning, HarmonyOS 7 Game Assistant includes a range of tools designed to enhance the overall gaming session:

  • Memory Cleanup: This function actively clears background memory in real-time, helping to reduce game lag and improve performance. It requires HarmonyOS 7 or above and App Assistant 16.4.1.300 or later.
  • Game Do Not Disturb: Automatically silences notifications and incoming calls to ensure an immersive and uninterrupted gaming environment.
  • Palm Rejection: This feature effectively blocks accidental screenshots or screen recordings triggered by palm touches while gaming, and is enabled by default upon entering a game.
  • Screenshot and Screen Recording: Provides quick and easy access to capture gameplay moments or record entire sessions.
  • Brightness Lock: Allows players to lock screen brightness at a desired level, preventing automatic adjustments from interfering with gameplay, especially in varying light conditions.
  • Direct Power Supply: When playing games while connected to a charger, this mode prioritizes supplying power directly to the system. When the device’s battery level exceeds a set threshold, the charger will focus on powering the system and temporarily pause battery charging, thereby reducing heat generation during intense gaming sessions.
  • Intelligent Voice Control: A unique feature that enables players to control in-game actions using voice commands. For example, in ‘The Battle of the Three Kingdoms,’ a player could issue a voice command like “attack Dong Zhuo” to execute an action. This feature is supported in select games.

According to Huawei’s official website, the App Assistant (Game Assistant) is an integrated tool designed to provide quick access to these high-performance modes and other gaming functionalities. The introduction of these advanced features in HarmonyOS 7 signals Huawei’s commitment to enhancing the mobile gaming ecosystem for its users.
