Rockstar Games is pulling out all the stops for the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI, with a massive marketing campaign kicking off in the game’s real-world inspiration, Miami. Despite some initial protests from local police officers, officials have recently approved the large-scale promotional efforts.

A City Transformed

The campaign’s flagship activation features a colossal billboard being installed at the Kaseya Center, home to the Miami Heat basketball team. This iconic structure bears the welcoming message, “Vice City Welcomes You.” Images and videos of the installation have been flooding social media, showing various sections of the billboard being hoisted to the rooftop. It remains unclear if the billboard is fully assembled, as its current orientation, facing upwards, suggests it might be designed for aerial viewing or could be oriented later for ground visibility.

Eager GTA fans have been glued to live city webcams, tracking the entire installation process. The sheer scale of the billboard ensures it will be a unmissable landmark, even from a distance.

Economic Impact

According to the Miami Herald, this single billboard is projected to generate $975,000 (approximately 6.55 million RMB) for Miami-Dade County. Rockstar’s promotional activities are strategically concentrated within the county, with partnerships extending across the wider Miami metropolitan area. Cities like Miami Beach and the City of Miami have also entered into agreements with Rockstar for promotional collaborations.

Earlier this month, the City of Miami Beach had already greenlit a marketing partnership with Rockstar, as previously reported. This proposed collaboration will see GTA VI advertisements displayed throughout the urban area, promising substantial revenue for the municipal government.

Broader Promotional Efforts

This grand billboard reveal follows other, more discreet, marketing initiatives. Rockstar Games recently received approval for lower-profile promotions in Miami, including beach chairs and umbrellas branded with “VI” or “Vice City.” These varied approaches underscore Rockstar’s commitment to building significant anticipation for GTA VI, set to launch in just two months.

The extensive preparations and the sheer scale of the marketing efforts in Miami highlight the immense anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI. As the release date approaches, players worldwide are eagerly awaiting further details and the opportunity to dive back into the iconic world of Vice City.
