The Ministry of Digital Transformation, together with the Ministry of Education and Science, is implementing the principle “Money Follows the Student”. The government has adopted a resolution to implement a pilot project. This year, for the first time, applicants will be able to receive a state grant to pay for a university contract – from 15 thousand hryvnias or more annually during their studies.
The funds will be credited through Diia to make the process simple and straightforward. Students enrolled in state-funded education will continue to receive full funding from the state. Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology Development, said:
“This is a revolutionary step for the Ukrainian higher education system.”
Contract applicants will be able to receive funds to cover part of the tuition fee. The amount of the grant is determined individually for each applicant, based on the results of the NMT and the specialty coefficient.
“We are actively transforming the education system and creating new mechanisms to support young people. It is important that such an initiative will be available for applicants this academic year,” said Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
How to get a grant
An applicant who:
- enrolls in a bachelor’s (or master’s) degree program in medicine, veterinary medicine, or pharmacy after high school or college;
- enrolled in a full-time or mixed form of study on a contract basis;
- has NMT results in any two subjects with grades of at least 150.
The total amount of the grant will be calculated as follows:
- If you have 150-170 points in any two subjects, you can apply for UAH 15 thousand;
- more than 170 points – for 25 thousand UAH.
The amount of the grant will be multiplied by a coefficient depending on the specialty. However, some specialties do not have a first-level grant, only a second-level grant, so it is available to applicants with more than 170 points in at least two subjects.
