More ads will appear in Google‘s AI-powered search results. On May 21, the company announced that it will start testing ads in AI Mode, a new artificial intelligence search feature that has just become available to all users in the United States.
AI Mode is a new tab in Google Search that opens up a chatbot-like interface where you can get a brief description of what you’re looking for, along with links to relevant websites. But soon, these answers may include product recommendations and other advertisements.
For example, Google says that if a user asks AI for advice on how to build a website, the feature will provide step-by-step instructions on how to get started. It can even show “useful ads” for the website builder, which will be labeled “sponsored.” Google says it is testing AI-powered search and shopping ads for desktop and mobile users.

The search giant is also expanding its advertising in AI reviews – AI-generated summaries that appear at the top of some search results – on both mobile and desktop devices. Now, if you’re looking for tips on how to bring small dogs on an airplane, you may see a “sponsored” list of small dog carriers and links to buy them under an AI review.
Starting today, ads in desktop AI reviews are available to all users in the United States. Google also plans to add ads to English-language AI reviews in “select countries” later this year.
