Galaxy S24 FE: camera hardware may disappoint you

Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 FE last October as part of the Galaxy S23 series, which launched in February this year. The Galaxy S24 series launched a month earlier, and we are also getting close to launching the Galaxy S24 FE. The next generation Fan Edition is expected to be introduced later in the year.

Samsung is reportedly working on a device codenamed R12. The Galaxy S20 FE, S21 FE, and S23 FE were codenamed R8, R9, and R11, respectively. So, R12 seems to represent the Galaxy S24 FE. In the absence of the R10 (S22 FE), the next generation (S23 FE) seems to have been based on the Galaxy S22 series. Hence, the S24 FE may also be based on last year’s S23 series rather than the S24 series.

Galaxy S24 FE uses the same main camera as its predecessor

In the latest news, Galaxy Club reveals the camera specifications of the next-generation FE model. The publication claims that the Galaxy S24 FE will feature a 50-megapixel ISOCELL GN3 sensor as the main sensor. The ISOCELL GN3 is a 1/1.57-inch sensor with 1.0 micron pixels.

For those who don’t know, this is the same main sensor used in the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 FE and this year’s Galaxy S24. So, the improvement in image quality will depend solely on image processing and may not meet the expectations of many. This may be somewhat disappointing for those who are waiting for the phone. However, it’s also understandable, as Fan Edition devices are never meant to push the envelope.

Although only the main sensor is known at the moment, we can expect more details to emerge in the coming months before the launch.

To give you an idea of the possible camera system, the predecessor was equipped with an 8-megapixel 3x telephoto and 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera in addition to the main ISOCELL GN3 sensor.

All fan models so far offer updated chipsets. In addition, Samsung is likely to use Exynos chips in the upcoming FE model wherever possible.

However, in the absence of the S22 FE, the S23 FE was based on the S22 chipset, and there is no Exynos 2300 chipset that the company could use at this time. We’ll have to see if they decide to put their latest Exynos 2400 chipset on the S24 FE, or if they purchase Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips for this purpose.
