Fiio is set to launch its latest hybrid Hi-Fi in-ear monitor (IEM), the FX25, on October 19th. This new model, which is an upgrade from the previous FX15, will retail for 4999 yuan. The FX25 boasts an impressive seven-driver configuration per side, featuring a 10mm dynamic driver for low frequencies, two custom Knowles balanced armature (BA) drivers for the mid and high-mid range, and four Danish Sonion electrostatic drivers for the treble and ultra-high frequencies.
Seven Drivers for Extended Range
The dynamic driver utilizes a lithium-magnesium alloy diaphragm, ensuring robust bass response. The dual Knowles BA drivers are strategically placed to provide a smooth transition between the mid and high frequencies. The quartet of Sonion electrostatic drivers extends the high-frequency response up to 50kHz, delivering the signature delicate overtones characteristic of electrostatic units. Compared to its predecessor, the FX15, which featured a 1 dynamic, 1 BA, and 4 electrostatic driver setup, the FX25 adds an extra mid-frequency BA driver. This enhancement, according to Fiio, is aimed at improving the density of the mid-range, with the tuning specifically optimized for pop vocals.
Advanced Acoustic Design and Materials
Fiio has incorporated its self-developed RLC second-order band-stop filter circuit for the first time in this model. This circuit is designed to precisely filter out high-frequency resonance peaks caused by harmonic resonance between the drivers and the acoustic cavity, resulting in a more natural and less harsh treble performance. The earphone’s housing is constructed from a high-end carbon fiber material, offering a balance of high rigidity and light weight. Each unit weighs approximately 7g, addressing potential issues of cracking common in resin housings and excessive weight found in metal alternatives.
The design also retains Fiio’s S.Turbo patented acoustic structure and a precision-tuned resonant rear cavity. These features work together to enhance the clarity and layering of vocals in the mid-frequency range.
Customizable and High-Quality Components
The FX25 features a standard 0.78mm 2-pin detachable cable design, allowing for easy customization. It comes bundled with a cryogenically treated 6N single-crystal copper silver-plated cable. The cable includes interchangeable plugs, offering 3.5mm single-ended, 4.4mm balanced, and USB-C DAC options, providing versatility for various audio sources and setups.
