Grok-2 by xAI may soon become free on X

Elon Musk’s xAI company launched its artificial intelligence chatbot Grok in late 2023, and since then it has remained available exclusively to premium users of X (formerly Twitter). Now, a year later, Grok looks set to become available to free X users in certain areas, according to TechCrunch.

The news comes from numerous reports from researchers and X users who have noticed the Grok update. According to X user Swak, there are certain conditions on who can get free access to Grok and how much they can use it. For starters, accounts must have been registered at least seven days ago and have a phone number associated with them. Free users are also reportedly limited in the number of actions they can take in two hours. During this time, they can ask the Grok-2 model 10 questions and the Grok-2 mini model 20 questions. In addition, free users receive only three image analyzes per day.

The Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini models are relatively new, having been released at the end of summer this year. The Grok-2 is xAI’s most advanced AI chatbot to date, receiving real-time information directly from X, while the company claims that the mini version “offers a balance between speed and quality of answers.”
