Diia opens the code for implementation in other countries

From now on, countries interested in Ukraine’s digitalization experience will be able to learn about the Diia logic and use its code to create their own public services.

What Diia opens up

Open Source is software whose source code is publicly available. It includes:

  • mobile application code – frontend and backend;
  • logic, document, and service that will help you understand how the platform works;
  • license to use.

In addition to the general code for the server and mobile parts of the application, the Ministry of Digital Transformation added the document Driver’s License and the service Certificate of no criminal record as examples of the application’s logic for working with data.

This is the first step, with more documents and services to follow. To access open source, you need to sign a public license on the website.

Data security

The Ministry of Digital Transformation emphasizes that the security of Ukrainians’ data will not be affected. The code does not have access to registries. The logic of the application is tested in a test environment where user data is fictitious.

In addition to governments, the open source code of Diia will also be useful for the IT community and businesses.

Open source is a popular global practice. European covid certificates were developed using this approach. And now the European Wallet of digital identification EUDI is being created. Governments and tech companies around the world are also using open source, such as Android and Linux.

“We are building an innovative government application and sharing our experience with the world”, Diia team say.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP Program, implemented by the Eastern Europe Foundation and funded by Switzerland.
