The beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, available for pre-order players since August 21st, has become the first game to integrate NVIDIA’s latest DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction technology. This integration was spotted by a keen-eyed Reddit user, marking a significant step for NVIDIA’s neural rendering advancements.

DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction: A Leap in Visual Fidelity

NVIDIA had previously announced the upcoming release of DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, but no game had officially adopted it until now. The Modern Warfare 4 beta offers players their first opportunity to experience the visual improvements brought by this new version.

Introduced by NVIDIA at COMPUTEX 2026 on June 1st, 2026, DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction is a neural rendering technology compatible with all GeForce RTX GPUs. Its primary goal is to enhance the quality of images in ray tracing and path tracing scenarios. It achieves this by employing an AI network that replaces traditional, manually tuned denoisers. This integrated approach combines denoising and super-resolution capabilities within a single model, intelligently analyzing spatio-temporal data to reconstruct sharper, more stable, and high-fidelity images.

A New DLSS Version Emerges

Adding to the surprise, DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction arrived alongside a new DLSS version, identified as 310.7.128. While not yet officially released by NVIDIA, players have already begun testing this version in other games by manually replacing the relevant DLL files.

Manual Implementation for Early Adopters

For those eager to try out the new DLSS files before the official rollout, tools like Profile Inspector or DLSS Swapper can be used to replace the DLL files within games. Direct replacement via the NVIDIA App might result in certain files not being recognized or appearing in the selection list.

The process involves:

  • Obtaining the nvngx_dlssd.dll file from the 310.7.128 version.
  • Backing up the original DLL file in the game you intend to test.
  • Replacing the original file with the new one.
  • Ensuring that the DLSS override option in the NVIDIA App is either turned off or set to use the application’s own settings.

Configuring Ray Reconstruction Presets

To ensure the new DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction model functions correctly, players need to adjust the Ray Reconstruction preset within the game’s configuration files. The new model utilizes ‘Preset F’, which corresponds to a numerical value of 6. This can be set using the ‘DLSS-RR – Forced Letter Preset’ option in Profile Inspector.

Early reports from the player community indicate successful implementation on titles such as Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, REDsaldak, and Hogwarts Legacy.

Verifying the Integration

Players can confirm whether the new DLSS version is active by using NVIDIA’s DLSS debug overlay, which is included in DLSSTweaks. This overlay also displays the currently enabled preset, confirming that the new model is running.

Performance and Improvements

NVIDIA stated that DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction incorporates a second-generation Transformer model, boasting a 20% increase in parameters and a 35% boost in computational power. Crucially, the performance of the new model is expected to remain comparable to the previous generation, while further enhancing temporal stability, lighting accuracy, and detail in motion.

Community tests have observed reduced ghosting, minimized temporal flickering, and improved visual details. However, the actual impact can vary depending on the specific game and graphical settings.

Given that the leaked DLL files are dated June 12th, NVIDIA’s official release is likely to feature updated files. With August drawing to a close, the official launch of the new DLSS version and DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction model is anticipated within the next week. Gamescom, the upcoming gaming exhibition, is a likely venue for further announcements and reveals from various game developers.
