Leaked gameplay footage and screenshots have surfaced for ‘Assassin’s Creed: Fate’, a previously rumored collaboration between Ubisoft and Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group. This project, which was set in ancient China during the Qin Dynasty, has reportedly been canceled and never reached a full development stage.

Early Glimpse of a Lost Project

The unearthed materials, primarily sourced from a prototype developed around February 2025, offer a fascinating look at what could have been. MP1st, a gaming publication, shared these early assets, showcasing core Assassin’s Creed mechanics such as stealth assassinations, parkour, and the iconic Leap of Faith.

The game was envisioned for PC and console platforms, with its narrative unfolding in the year 206 BCE. Despite being in its nascent stages, the glimpses reveal a distinctive art style, including ink-wash-inspired skill icons and decorative elements featuring Yin and Yang motifs. A health bar and placeholder UI elements are also visible, hinting at the game’s intended interface.

Gameplay Mechanics and Story Snippets

One particular mission sequence depicted a female assassin infiltrating a palace besieged by the historical figure Xiang Yu and his army. The objective was to retrieve a mysterious artifact. The footage also included an early iteration of a boss battle against Xiang Yu himself, underscoring the game’s combat potential.

A notable highlight was the protagonist utilizing a spinning, umbrella-like weapon, reminiscent of the Chinese ‘Tianji’ umbrella. While many UI elements were placeholders, the visual design hinted at a unique aesthetic for the Qin Dynasty setting. Animations also showcased a male character performing parkour maneuvers to approach and eliminate enemies, suggesting the possibility of player character gender choice, though this remains unconfirmed by official sources.

Distinguishing from Assassin’s Creed: Jade

It’s important to clarify that Assassin’s Creed: Fate is a separate project from Assassin’s Creed: Jade. The latter, announced by Ubisoft in 2022, is a mobile title also set in ancient China, specifically around 215 BCE, and is being developed in partnership with Tencent’s Level Infinite. Assassin’s Creed: Jade is still in development, as confirmed by Ubisoft in March 2026, although a release date has yet to be announced.

TiMi Studio Group Restructuring and Project Cancellations

According to MP1st’s report, the cancellation of Assassin’s Creed: Fate stemmed from organizational restructuring within TiMi Studio Group in early 2025. The studio was reorganized into four distinct teams, each focusing on different projects, leading to the discontinuation of Assassin’s Creed: Fate.

The report also sheds light on other TiMi Studio Group projects that were either canceled or significantly altered. These include ‘Athena’, a third-person action game based on Greek mythology, and ‘Invictus’, a cyberpunk-style open-world project spearheaded by a lead from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The development of ‘Invictus’ was ultimately terminated following the closure of TiMi’s Montreal division.

While the cancellation of Assassin’s Creed: Fate is a loss for fans hoping for a new Chinese-themed installment in the series, the leaked materials offer a valuable look into the early stages of game development and the ambitious ideas that sometimes don’t make it to market.
