Social media platform Bluesky has launched a beta version of Trending Topics, the company announced in a post on the platform. The new feature is one of the most requested by users and corresponds to a feature that has been available on the competing service Threads for about nine months, and on X (at that time Twitter) since at least 2017.
The Trending section shows the most popular viral content on the platform, with topics such as Christmas, Nosferatu, and Wikipedia (thanks to Elon Musk) currently in the top spot. You can find it by clicking on search in both the desktop and mobile applications, or you can turn it off in the settings, TechCrunch notes. Any words that you have disabled will also not appear in popular topics.
Bluesky recently reached an important milestone of 25 million users, many of whom recently left X after the US election. Although the number of users is still relatively small compared to Threads and X, users report a high level of engagement, as well as a lack of bots and harassment compared to Elon Musk’s platform. Other popular features that have not yet been implemented include bookmarking, editing, verification badges, and private posts.
