Google is working on a battery status menu that could help you determine why your Android phone isn’t lasting as long between charges as it used to. It’s similar to an iPhone feature that came out in 2018, but unlike that, it won’t be available on older devices that are likely to need it the most.
As reported by Android Authority and noted by Reddit, a Google developer on the publicly available Android Issue Tracker site said that the battery status indicator will only appear on the company’s Pixel 8A and newer models, and that Google “will not fix” the problem because it is “impossible.”
Google launched the battery status indicator for Android 16 beta testers in March, and it has been observed that the company has been working on some form of utility since 2023. We asked Google why this feature is limited to the Pixel 8A and Pixel 9, but have not yet received a response.
