Apple is being sued in federal court over what the plaintiffs say is false advertising of certain Apple Intelligence features.
The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in San Jose, seeks class action status and damages on behalf of those who purchased iPhones and other Apple Intelligence-enabled devices. The plaintiffs claim that device owners did not receive the promised Apple Intelligence features.
“Apple’s advertising [cultivated] clear and reasonable consumer expectations that these transformative features would be available upon the release of the iPhone,” the complaint filed by the plaintiffs’ lawyers says. “Contrary to defendant’s claims of advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, the products offered a significantly limited or non-existent version of Apple Intelligence, which misled consumers about its actual utility and performance.”
This lawsuit has become another headache for Apple, which is trying to bring the long-awaited Apple Intelligence capabilities to the market. On Thursday, Bloomberg reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook “has lost confidence in the ability of artificial intelligence chief John Giannandrea to do product development work.”
