Apple offers free repairs to iPhone 14 users

If you’re an iPhone 14 Plus user and you’re experiencing issues with the rear camera preview, Apple has just announced a new service program that will fix the issue at no additional charge. Apparently, some iPhone 14 Plus, including those manufactured between April 10, 2023, and April 28, 2024, may have a rear camera that doesn’t show a preview when taking photos. If your device is one of these, Apple is offering a free repair.

iPhone 14 Plus service program – how to check if you’re eligible

Apple has made it easy to check if you’re eligible for the iPhone 14 Plus Maintenance Program. Simply go to the program page available at support.apple.com and enter your iPhone’s serial number. For those who don’t know, you can find your iPhone’s serial number by going to Settings > General > About.

If your iPhone meets the requirements, you can contact Apple directly or an authorized service center to have the camera issue fixed for free. If you’ve already paid for camera repairs related to this issue, you may also be eligible for a refund, according to Apple.

“Apple has determined that the rear camera on a very small percentage of iPhone 14 Plus devices may not display a preview. These devices were manufactured between April 10, 2023, and April 28, 2024,” Apple writes on the program page, adding that “if your iPhone 14 Plus has this issue, Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will provide free service.”

Such free service programs are rare, but they are not new. Apple has launched similar programs in the past, for example, when it discovered that certain iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models had receiver issues, or when AirPods Pro made a crackling noise. Typically, these programs cover the repair of eligible devices for three years from the date of initial sale.

The iPhone 14 Plus was released in 2022 as the first large-sized iPhone in the modern iPhone era, replacing the mini model in the lineup. Since then, Apple has been releasing a new larger model every year (the latest is the iPhone 16 Plus), while the mini model is lost but not forgotten.
