According to a new report from Medium, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple is preparing for a significant selfie camera upgrade in the iPhone 17. The Cupertino giant will reportedly equip the next-generation iPhone with a 24-megapixel sensor. This is a marked improvement over the current iterations, which offer a 12-megapixel selfie camera. In other words, the camera in the iPhone 17 will almost double the number of pixels compared to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15.
Ming-Chi Kuo adds that the increased resolution should provide sharper images that capture more detail. But it’s not just an increase in the number of megapixels, as the analyst claims that Apple will switch to a six-element lens. This will essentially make the image sensor correct distortion to produce more accurate images. In addition, the selfie camera will noticeably improve in low light conditions, but you will have to pay for it.
Kuo claims that the new lens system for the iPhone 17 will be supplied by Taiwanese company Yujingguang. He adds that the selfie camera will be about 100-120 percent more expensive than the 5P lens system in the iPhone 15.
