Apple has officially launched the new AirPods 5, bringing advanced active noise cancellation and an immersive audio experience to users. The latest earbuds are priced at 999 Yuan in China. However, savvy shoppers in select regions can snag them for even less, with JD.com offering a special government subsidy that brings the price down to 849.15 Yuan for customers in Jiangsu, Jilin, Beijing, and Dalian.
Enhanced Audio and Noise Cancellation
The AirPods 5 boast a completely redesigned acoustic architecture featuring a new generation of Adaptive EQ, inspired by the AirPods Pro 3. This innovation aims to deliver a richer and more detailed sound profile, tailored to a wider range of ear shapes for a more immersive listening experience. The standout feature is the groundbreaking ear-tip-free active noise cancellation. Apple claims this technology can reduce external noise by up to 50% compared to the previous generation (AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation), while the Transparency mode has been made even more natural-sounding.
For enhanced interaction, users can now respond to Siri using head gestures. The new design also introduces a force sensor on the stem of the AirPods 5, a first for ear-tip-free earbuds. This sensor allows for quick volume adjustments with a simple swipe up or down on the earbud’s stem, offering a more convenient way to control audio playback.
Improved Battery Life and Charging
Battery performance has also seen a significant boost thanks to a redesigned battery. With active noise cancellation enabled, the AirPods 5 can deliver up to 5 hours of playback on a single charge, an improvement of 1 hour over the AirPods 4. When combined with the charging case, users can enjoy up to 22 hours of total listening time with active noise cancellation activated. The wireless charging case supports charging via Apple Watch chargers, Qi-compatible chargers, and USB-C, offering versatile charging options.
Sustainability Focus
In line with Apple’s commitment to environmental responsibility, the AirPods 5 are designed with sustainability in mind. The earbuds and charging case incorporate a significant amount of recycled materials, with 40% recycled material used in the overall product and 70% recycled plastic in the wireless charging case. The batteries utilize 100% recycled cobalt. Furthermore, the manufacturing process for the AirPods 5 supply chain is powered by 35% renewable energy sources, including wind and solar power. The packaging is made from 100% fiber-based materials, promoting easy recycling at home.
Pricing and Trade-In Offers
The standard AirPods 5 are priced at 999 Yuan. The model with the wireless charging case is available for 1,199 Yuan. In addition to the regional government subsidy, JD.com is also running a trade-in program. Customers who trade in eligible old headphones, valued at over 100 Yuan, can receive an additional subsidy of 100 to 150 Yuan from JD.com. This promotion can bring the effective price of the new AirPods 5 down to as low as 699 to 749 Yuan, making it an even more attractive offer.
The trade-in subsidy is automatically applied by the system. If the promotion doesn’t appear immediately, users are advised to try refreshing the page or using a different account.
Durability Upgrades
The new AirPods 5 also feature upgraded dust, sweat, and water resistance, enhancing their durability for active users.
