Amazon can now buy products from other websites

Amazon is testing a new “Buy for Me” button that will allow you to purchase goods from third-party sites without leaving the e-commerce giant’s mobile app. The feature is based on agent-based artificial intelligence, which allows the company to purchase goods on your behalf.

Last month, Amazon launched a test that redirected you to other brands’ websites for products it doesn’t sell. But now, instead of redirecting you to a site to fill out payment and shipping details, Buy for Me should do all the work for you. The feature is powered by Amazon’s Nova AI artificial intelligence system, which now includes a new model capable of performing actions in your browser, as well as Claude by Anthropic.

When you click on a product that supports this feature, you see all the details of the product directly in the Amazon app. Clicking the “Buy for me” button will open the Amazon checkout page where you can confirm your payment information.

After that, Amazon will use artificial intelligence to “securely” provide your “encrypted name, address, and payment details to complete the checkout process on the brand’s website.” The company says it cannot view previous or individual orders from third-party sites. Although you will be able to track your orders directly on Amazon, you will have to visit the other brand’s website for customer service and product returns.

Amazon does not disclose whether it will receive a share of purchases made through the Buy for Me program, but notes that third-party companies may opt out. “Buy for Me” is currently available to a “subset” of users in the US on iOS and Android devices. Amazon is also testing it with a limited number of brands and products, but plans to expand it in the future.
