The budget iPhone SE has always been a good choice for people who can’t afford to pay Apple’s tax for a new iPhone but want to stay in the iOS ecosystem. However, the last model was released almost two years ago, which makes us wonder when we will see the return of cheaper iPhones from Apple. According to the South Korean website AjuNews (via TechRadar), the iPhone SE 4 may appear as early as March 2025.

This prediction is based on information from Apple’s camera manufacturing partner, LG Innotek, which is set to begin mass production of the phone’s camera in December. According to the report, LG Innotek is “currently conducting tests before mass production” and usually delivers camera modules about three months before a smartphone is released. Given this timeline, a March 2025 release seems likely.

This is in line with previous predictions by MacRumors, which estimated the phone to launch in early 2025. According to their assumptions, it will be introduced before the Lunar New Year in January or March, with the latter option being more likely since all three previous iPhone SE models were released in March.

We were fans of the iPhone SE 3 2022, but would have liked to see it have a larger display and more storage at an entry-level price. Current rumors suggest that the fourth-generation iPhone SE will feature a 6.1-inch OLED display, which is a huge leap from the paltry 4.7-inch display of the 2022 model. The increase in display size is due to the elimination of the Home button. The current iPhone SE is still equipped with the outdated Touch ID, which is expected to be replaced by Face ID, which will free up additional space.

The iPhone SE 4 will switch from Lightning to Type-C in accordance with the EU mandate. Regarding the price, rumors suggest a slight price increase from $430 for the iPhone SE 3 to less than $500 for the fourth generation, which is likely due to inflation and higher material and manufacturing costs.

Let’s hope we see an improved night mode in the upcoming iPhone SE. All we know about the camera is that it will increase from 12MP in the SE 3 to 48MP in the fourth generation and this time it will be a single-lens rear camera. Predictions also indicate that the phone will get Apple Intelligence support, which should be interesting since this feature is currently exclusive to Apple’s latest, most high-end phones.
