New iPhones will offer longer battery life

Samsung Display plans to use new materials on its OLED panels, which should make the screens more energy efficient. So, here are all the details.

According to a new report by The Elec, Samsung Display plans to use a blue phosphorescent material in its OLED displays. This new material will significantly reduce the power consumption of the panels, so the next-generation iPhones may have longer battery life. Unfortunately, this new screen may not appear on devices until 2026. In other words, the new display technology should not be available until the iPhone 18 lineup.

For those who don’t know, red and green phosphorescent materials in OLED panels have 100 percent internal light efficiency. However, the blue color has fluorescent materials that are only 25 percent efficient. Therefore, replacing it with a phosphorescent material can help reduce the power consumption of new OLED screens. Samsung is currently working on developing such a blue phosphorescent material.

Notably, the lifespan of the new materials being developed by Samsung is about 55 percent of the lifespan of the blue fluorescent material used in the M11 OLED screen. This is the same screen used in the iPhone 13 series. This means that the technology is still not ready, and UBI analyst Yoon notes that the development “doesn’t look like it’s going smoothly.” Keep in mind that this is still just unconfirmed information, so take this news with a grain of salt.
