Apple has announced a record-breaking year for its Mac computer sales, with the company selling more Macs in the 2026 fiscal year than ever before. John Ternus, Apple’s newly appointed CEO, shared the impressive figures during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call for fiscal year 2026, which concluded on September 26, 2026.
“We’ve never sold as many Macs in a fiscal year as we have this year,” Ternus stated during the call. He attributed this success to the “exceptional quality” of Apple’s Mac products, suggesting that this inherent value resonates strongly with consumers.
Kevan Parekh, Apple’s Chief Financial Officer, further elaborated that the surge in Mac sales was significantly driven by the recent strong performance of the MacBook Neo and MacBook Pro lines. These popular laptop models appear to be key contributors to the record-breaking year.
The positive Mac sales performance comes at a time when the broader PC market faces intensifying competition and increasing pressure from AI-powered laptops and the Windows ecosystem. Despite these challenges, Apple’s Mac lineup has evidently maintained strong user recognition and loyalty. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as highlighted by tech media outlet MacRumors.
Experts and tech blogs point to Apple’s strategic shift to its custom-designed Apple Silicon chips as a pivotal factor behind the Mac’s sustained growth. The performance, battery life, and energy efficiency advantages offered by these chips are widely considered to be crucial in driving both upgrade cycles for existing users and attracting new customers to the Mac platform.
Apple has also continued to expand its desktop Mac offerings, further bolstering its product matrix. Recent additions include the Mac mini equipped with M6 and M5 Pro chips, and the Mac Studio featuring M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. These releases provide more powerful and versatile options for users who prefer a desktop computing experience, complementing the strong sales of their laptop counterparts.
The continued success of the Mac line underscores Apple’s ability to innovate and deliver products that meet and exceed market expectations, even amidst a dynamic and competitive technology landscape. The company’s focus on integrated hardware and software, coupled with the advancements in its proprietary silicon, seems to be a winning formula for its personal computer division.
