XPeng is set to significantly restructure its retail strategy for its MONA sub-brand, with plans to establish independent stores in select cities starting in 2027. This move signals a growing emphasis on the MONA brand and its distinct positioning in the market.

Brand Evolution and Retail Expansion

Wang Fengying, President of XPeng Group, announced the upcoming establishment of dedicated MONA dealerships during the 2026 Paris Motor Show. Speaking to Jiemian News, she also hinted at the future possibility of MONA becoming a completely independent brand. This strategic shift is already showing signs of implementation, with early indicators appearing in key sales channels.

Sales representatives at an XPeng Motors store in Beijing have reportedly confirmed that XPeng and MONA vehicles will be sold separately, with MONA-specific outlets planned. Further evidence comes from Xin Chuxing CEO He Lei, who indicated that a shopping mall in Guangzhou’s Haizhu District is set to host a “XPeng MONA Sales Center,” suggesting a move towards dedicated, co-branded or independent retail spaces.

Product Line Consolidation and MONA’s Niche

In parallel with the retail strategy, XPeng is also streamlining its internal product architecture. The company recently consolidated its four previous product lines (F, D, I, G) into two main lines: G and D. The I and F lines have been integrated into the G product line, while the MONA brand continues to exclusively occupy the D product line. This restructuring clearly delineates MONA’s product development from the XPeng main brand, reinforcing its unique market identity.

MONA L05: A New Global Contender

The announcement follows the recent launch of the XPeng MONA L05, which debuted on the evening of October 29th. With a starting official guided price of 144,800 yuan (approximately $19,800 USD) and a limited-time introductory price of 139,800 yuan (approximately $19,100 USD), the L05 is the third model in the MONA series and the first large five-seater SUV for the brand. It has been developed with global applicability, targeting 65 countries and regions worldwide.

The MONA L05 boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 4870mm in length, 1930mm in width, and 1636mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2940mm. This positions it as a competitive offering in the mid-size SUV segment.

Ensuring Production Capacity

To support the rollout of its new models, XPeng announced on October 27th that the first batch of 5,000 units from the new MONA L05 production line had rolled off the assembly line. The company emphasized that this dedicated production line is operating at full capacity to ensure supply chain stability and meet anticipated demand.

The strategic integration of independent retail spaces, a refined product line strategy, and the introduction of globally competitive models like the MONA L05 signal XPeng’s ambitious plans for the MONA sub-brand. The move towards standalone dealerships by 2027 suggests a long-term vision focused on carving out a distinct market presence for MONA, potentially paving the way for its eventual independence.
