XHEART, a company spun off from Momenta’s chip division, has unveiled ambitious plans for its next-generation large model AI chip, codenamed XHEART X9. During a recent event, the company revealed that the X9 chip is slated for launch in 2027 with a target performance of 3000 TOPS for large model computations and a memory bandwidth of 700GB/s on a single chip.

A Glimpse into the Future of AI Hardware

XHEART CEO Li Zonglin outlined the company’s strategic R&D approach, emphasizing a continuous development cycle of “mass-producing one generation, developing one generation, and pre-researching one generation.” This systematic methodology aims to ensure consistent progress and validation across all development stages.

The XHEART X9 chip will adhere to the company’s established technical roadmap, which prioritizes a “large model defining the chip” philosophy. The design will focus on collaborative hardware and software development, specifically tailored for next-generation world models. By simultaneously enhancing computational power and memory access capabilities, XHEART aims to enable the efficient operation of even larger AI models and unlock the full potential of their processing power.

Rapid Development and Proven Performance

IT Home reports that XHEART, which separated from Momenta’s chip project to become an independent entity, has demonstrated remarkable speed in its chip development. The company reportedly took just two years from its inception to achieve mass production of its first chip. The initial X7 chip achieved a successful bring-up within 24 hours of returning from fabrication. Notably, within just 17 days, the X7 chip, its underlying software, and an intelligent driving model were integrated into a complete vehicle system, undergoing rigorous testing on real-world roads under various complex weather conditions.

This rapid development cycle and early validation of the X7 chip underscore XHEART’s commitment to delivering high-performance AI solutions. The company’s focus on large models and soft-hard synergy positions it as a notable player in the evolving landscape of AI hardware development.

The announcement of the XHEART X9 chip and its ambitious targets suggests a significant push towards more powerful and efficient AI processing capabilities. As the demand for sophisticated AI applications continues to grow, hardware solutions like the X9 will be crucial in meeting these evolving needs.
