Kazakhstan is transitioning from AI infrastructure planning to tangible implementation, with significant advancements observed across all levels, from foundational hardware to the development of models and practical applications.

Infrastructure Scaling

Kazakhtelecom, the nation’s largest telecommunications provider, has already deployed 400 NVIDIA H200 GPUs and 480 NVIDIA B300 GPUs in the cities of Astana and Almaty. For the upcoming year, the company intends to install over 1,000 GPUs in its Data Center Valley and an additional 1,000 NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs in the Ekibastuz region. This robust infrastructure will support a wide array of AI tasks, offering scalable access for businesses, developers, and institutions.

Growth of AI Companies

Kazakhstan’s native AI companies are concurrently bolstering their computational resources and advancing their application development. In a collaborative effort, inDrive and Pony.ai have initiated research into the feasibility of implementing robotaxi services within Kazakhstan, with the first pilot program set to launch in Astana. This initiative will evaluate the integration of Pony.ai’s seventh-generation robotaxis into the inDrive application, supported by NVIDIA’s infrastructure, including the NVIDIA Hyperion sensor and computing platform, and the NVIDIA Halos safety system.

The expansion of local computational capabilities provides developers and companies with the essential environment for training, fine-tuning, and deploying increasingly sophisticated AI models. The success of these applications, in turn, is expected to drive further demand for computational resources.

Kazakhstan’s AI potential extends beyond just the quantity of GPUs. The synergy between this infrastructure, its skilled developers, academic institutions, startups, and various industrial sectors is poised to transform accelerated computing into practical, impactful solutions. Current developments highlight the maturation of various ecosystem components, from infrastructure deployment to ensuring access to computing power and fostering the creation of AI-driven products, collectively reaching a new scale of advancement.
