Mercedes-Benz USA is initiating a significant recall in the United States, affecting approximately 30,064 vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that a potential defect in the front brake hoses could lead to a rupture and subsequent brake fluid leakage. This issue could result in extended braking distances and an increased risk of a collision.

Affected Models and the Dual-Circuit System

The recall specifically targets several models from the 2022 to 2025 model years. These include the S 500 4MATIC, Maybach S 580 4MATIC, Maybach S 680 4MATIC, and S 580 4MATIC. Additionally, certain 2023-2025 S 580 E 4MATIC and 2024-2025 AMG S 63 E 4MATIC+ models are also part of this recall. These luxury vehicles are equipped with a dual-circuit braking system. While this system is designed to provide a backup in case one circuit fails, a ruptured brake hose would still significantly degrade braking performance. The unaffected circuit would attempt to compensate, but drivers would experience a noticeable reduction in stopping power.

Warning Signs and Notification Process

A concerning aspect of this defect is that drivers may not notice any warning signs until the brake fluid has leaked to a point where it triggers an alert. According to reports, a red brake fluid warning light on the vehicle’s fully digital instrument cluster will illuminate only after the leak has reached a critical threshold. This lack of immediate auditable or visible cues before the alert presents a potential safety hazard.

Mercedes-Benz dealerships have been informed via technical service bulletins about the necessary repairs. Owners of affected vehicles will have the front brake hoses on both sides replaced free of charge. The automaker plans to notify owners by registered mail, with recall notices expected to be sent out by November 27, 2026.

This recall underscores the importance of manufacturer-initiated safety campaigns to address potential component failures that could compromise vehicle safety. While the notification period extends to late 2026, owners experiencing any unusual braking behavior or warning lights are advised to contact their local Mercedes-Benz dealership immediately.
