On the 57th World Post Day, China’s State Post Bureau announced that the nation has established the world’s largest, most comprehensive, and most beneficiary-inclusive postal and express delivery network. With an average of over 140 express deliveries per person annually, China’s logistics infrastructure is supporting an ever-increasing volume of shipments.

Expanding Network and Increasing Volumes

The country has significantly expanded its network coverage, with key hub clusters in regions like Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the Yangtze River Delta, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Chengdu-Chongqing region, and the central urban agglomerations now largely in place. Leveraging a strategy of “hubs + channels + networks,” the system handles over 6,300 parcels every second, amounting to an average of 540 million parcels daily. This robust infrastructure has led to a continuous improvement in average delivery times and overall public satisfaction.

The data highlights the remarkable scale of China’s logistics operations. From January to August of the current year, the daily average of express parcels handled nationwide was 523 million. As September began, this figure climbed to an average of 585 million parcels per day, with daily peaks exceeding 610 million.

“Express Delivery to Villages” Initiative

Beyond the major hubs, China has also made significant strides in extending its express delivery services to rural areas. Through a “postal guarantee” system in 17 pilot counties across central and western China, 2,939 administrative villages have gained access to express delivery services. Furthermore, over 81% of these villages have established integrated village-level logistics and delivery service stations, bridging the gap between urban and rural accessibility.

The theme for this year’s World Post Day, “Improving Postal Service Networks, Unlocking Infinite Industry Possibilities,” resonates strongly with these developments. China’s commitment to enhancing its postal and express delivery infrastructure not only supports domestic e-commerce and economic activity but also positions it as a crucial player in global logistics. The continuous growth in parcel volume and the expansion of network coverage, particularly into rural areas, underscore the dynamic evolution of China’s postal services and their impact on the lives of its citizens.
