Huawei has officially unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Mate 90 Pro, at a grand launch event. A key highlight of the new device is its debut of the cutting-edge Kirin 9035 flagship chipset. This announcement was made by Richard Yu, Huawei’s Executive Director and Chairman of the Consumer Business Group.
Kirin 9035: A Significant Leap Forward
The new Kirin 9035 processor represents a substantial upgrade over its predecessor. According to Huawei, the Kirin 9035 offers impressive performance gains compared to the Kirin 9030 processor found in the previous generation’s Mate 80 Pro 12GB version. Specifically, the new chip boasts an 11% improvement in CPU performance, a 10% boost in GPU capabilities, and a remarkable 51% increase in NPU (Neural Processing Unit) performance. This significant NPU enhancement is expected to translate into faster and more efficient AI-powered features on the Mate 90 Pro.
Mate 90 Standard Edition Enhancements
In addition to the Pro model, Huawei also detailed the specifications for the standard Mate 90. This version will be powered by the Kirin 9030 flagship chipset. While it may not feature the absolute latest 9035, it still brings notable improvements over the older Kirin 9020. The Kirin 9030 delivers a 13% increase in CPU speed, a substantial 54% leap in GPU performance, and a 13% upgrade in NPU efficiency. Furthermore, the Kirin 9030 incorporates FFRT (Fast Field Rendering Technology) software and hardware co-scheduling, which, according to Huawei, doubles image loading speeds by 100%.
Implications for Huawei’s Ecosystem
The introduction of the Kirin 9035 and the improved Kirin 9030 signify Huawei’s continued commitment to in-house chip development. Despite facing external challenges, the company has consistently pushed the boundaries of mobile processing power. The substantial gains, particularly in NPU performance, suggest a strong focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, which are becoming increasingly integral to the smartphone experience. These advancements are expected to enhance everything from camera capabilities and battery management to overall system responsiveness and the execution of complex AI tasks.
The launch of the Mate 90 series, powered by these new Kirin chips, positions Huawei to compete strongly in the premium smartphone market. The focus on improved graphics and AI processing power indicates that the company is targeting users who demand high performance for gaming, content creation, and advanced AI-driven features. As more details emerge about the Mate 90 series, including full specifications and pricing, the tech community will be keenly watching how these new processors perform in real-world scenarios.
