Huawei’s Harmony Ecosystem Ignites: New Era with Luxeed G9 and More

The much-anticipated Luxeed G9 and Harmony Intelligent Mobility (HIM) new product launch event kicked off on August 20th, unveiling a suite of innovations that promise to redefine the automotive and tech landscape. While the Luxeed G9, HIM’s first rugged SUV, took center stage, CEO Richard Yu also surprised attendees with the global debut of the Huawei Pura X View, a groundbreaking flat-screen smartphone.

Luxeed G9: Redefining the Rugged Luxury SUV

Positioned as a ‘tech luxury rugged SUV,’ the Luxeed G9 is the third major offering from Luxeed, aiming to set a new benchmark in its class. Developed through a swift consensus between BAIC’s Chairman Zhang Jianyong and Richard Yu, the G9 merges BAIC’s 68 years of off-road manufacturing expertise with Huawei’s advanced technological prowess.

Design and Dimensions

The Luxeed G9 boasts an imposing presence with its dimensions: 5377mm length, 2050mm width, and 1897mm height, with a substantial 3160mm wheelbase. Its design language, inspired by ‘interstellar vehicles,’ features innovative ‘Harmony Image’ projection headlights and a striking ‘star ring’ taillight. Practicality meets luxury with four smart electric doors, electric side steps, and welcome light carpets. Its off-road capabilities are impressive, with a standard ground clearance of 205mm, expandable to 285mm, and excellent approach (23.5°) and departure (26°) angles. Aerodynamic optimization has reduced drag to 0.279, contributing to a significant range increase.

Performance and Technology

Underpinning the G9 is Huawei’s all-new ‘Intelligent All-Terrain Dexterity Platform.’ It features a dual-valve continuously variable damping suspension paired with a centralized air suspension system. With a water wading depth of 800mm and a rear-wheel steering angle of up to ±12 degrees, the G9 offers exceptional maneuverability. Key innovations include the HIM Intelligent All-Terrain System, an 800V active disconnectable anti-roll bar, and an adaptive differential lock, all powered by Huawei’s ‘Intelligent Power Drive’ 800V platform.

Powertrain and Range

The G9 is built on the 800V Huawei ‘Whale’ battery platform, offering both pure electric and extended-range variants. The pure electric version features a 120kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of up to 728km. The extended-range models come with 75kWh or 56kWh battery packs, offering a CLTC pure electric range of up to 405km and a combined range of up to 1366km.

Safety and Health Features

Emphasizing ‘safety is the greatest luxury,’ the G9 incorporates a robust 720° cage-like structure made from 100% submarine-grade hot-formed steel and integrated aluminum alloy casting. It includes the CAS 5.0 collision avoidance system, providing comprehensive sensing capabilities, and a five-layer door unlock redundancy design with 11 airbags. Communication security is enhanced with Huawei’s ‘Star River Communication’ 3.0, featuring industry-first vehicle-to-vehicle communication and a 10km range integrated walkie-talkie.

Intelligent Cabin and Autonomous Driving

The G9’s interior is defined by a seamless ‘three-screen’ display and the HIM exclusive cockpit. It supports L3-level autonomous driving architecture, equipped with a 38-sensor fusion perception system and full-link redundancy across eight key systems (perception, computation, braking, steering, power, communication, positioning, and interaction).

Space and Versatility

Available in five or six-seat configurations, the G9 prioritizes passenger comfort with features like zero-gravity seats, massage functions, and an optional onboard oxygen system. Storage solutions are abundant, with various configurations offering substantial cargo space, including a 370L trunk in the six-seat version and expandable capacity up to 2058L in the five-seat model when seats are folded. It also supports outdoor expansion, with options for integrated roof racks and a tailgate kitchen.

  • Luxeed G9 Max+ (Extended Range): 5-seater at ¥429,800; 6-seater at ¥439,800.
  • Luxeed G9 Ultra (Extended Range/Pure Electric): 5-seater at ¥479,800; 6-seater at ¥499,800.
  • Luxeed G9 Ultra+ (Extended Range/Pure Electric): 5-seater at ¥529,800; 6-seater at ¥549,800.

Venucy RX: A Glimpse into the Future

Richard Yu also previewed the Venucy RX, characterized by its ‘X aura.’ The RX features dimensions of 5020×2007×1585mm with a 3000mm wheelbase, ultra-wide tires, and an aerodynamic design. It utilizes a revolutionary nano-level bionic structural color-changing paint. Powered by the Huawei ‘Whale’ battery platform and featuring the new ‘Black Box’ technology, the RX is built using advanced die-casting technology for exceptional torsional rigidity.

Intelligent Driving and Comfort

The Venucy RX is designed with an L3-level autonomous driving architecture and a 38-sensor fusion perception system. Its interior boasts smart electric doors, innovative seating, and a dynamic center screen.

Pricing

  • Venucy RX (with LiDAR): Starting from ¥299,800.
  • Venucy RX (L3 Autonomous Driving): Starting from ¥359,800.

AITO M9: Enhanced Range Options

Two new extended-range versions of the AITO M9 were introduced: the Max 4WD and the Max+ Long Range. These models come with new aesthetic options, including an ice crystal pink exterior and truffle brown interior. The Max 4WD (37kWh battery) offers a CLTC pure electric range of 235km and is priced at ¥239,800. The Max+ Long Range (53.4kWh battery) provides a 355km CLTC pure electric range and is priced at ¥259,800.

Venucy V8: Upcoming MPV

A forthcoming MPV, the Venucy V8, positioned for ‘high-end family use,’ was briefly mentioned and confirmed for an appearance at the Chengdu Auto Show. This adds to the existing V800/V680 and Venucy V9 models in the MPV segment.

‘One More Thing’: Huawei Pura X View Smartphone

Concluding the event, Richard Yu unveiled the Huawei Pura X View, the world’s first ‘wide flat-screen’ smartphone. It boasts an industry-leading 96.1% screen-to-body ratio with extremely narrow bezels (1.05mm). The display offers a peak brightness of 6500 nits, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and 2160Hz PWM dimming. With a 7000mAh battery, it supports immersive viewing, reading, gaming, and productivity experiences.

HarmonyOS 7 Debut

The Pura X View will be the first device to feature HarmonyOS 7, as HarmonyOS 6 has already surpassed 80 million active devices. The phone is available in multiple configurations, with prices and detailed specs to be released.

Looking Ahead

The event highlighted the rapid evolution of Huawei’s HIM ecosystem, with the official launch of the Luxeed G9, the debut of the Venucy RX, new AITO M9 variants, and the surprise reveal of the Huawei Pura X View. With upcoming releases like the Mate XT2 and Mate 90 series on the horizon, September promises to be another significant month for Huawei and its partners.
