NASA SpaceX Crew-10 astronauts return to Earth

The astronauts participating in the SpaceX Crew-10 mission are returning home. Their Dragon capsule, named Endurance, is scheduled to splash down at approximately 11:33 a.m. EDT off the coast of California. Endurance undocked from the International Space Station at 6:15 p.m. EDT on August 8 with NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nicole Ayers, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov on board. They spent five months on the ISS and left a week after the arrival of the Crew-11 crew, who took their place.

During their stay at the space station, the Crew-10 crew helped expand our knowledge of the physiological and psychological changes that occur in humans during long missions lasting from several weeks to a year. Among other studies and experiments, they also observed how blood flows from the brain to the heart in microgravity conditions.

According to NASA, this will be the first Commercial Crew mission to splash down in the Pacific Ocean, as previous capsules have splashed down off the coast of Florida. NASA will broadcast the crew’s return, with coverage beginning at 10:15 a.m. today, August 9.
