Anker Bluetooth speaker would survive the biblical flood

Anker has created what it calls “the industry’s first” Bluetooth speaker that plays music perfectly while floating in all types of water.

The Soundcore Boom 3i outdoor speaker is the latest in Anker’s Boom series of outdoor speakers and offers several key benefits. One of them, as I mentioned earlier, is that this thing can float. According to Anker, Soundcore Boom 3i: “Stays upright and sounds clear, even in waves. There’s no distortion, no dive – just loud, clear sound for kayaking, pool parties, and any water adventure.” This is not necessarily a technical achievement, but simply the weight is distributed in such a way that the speakers are directed away from the water depths. Still, it’s a good plus if you’re planning on throwing this thing into a lake or a large pool, or, if you’re feeling a little crazy, the ocean.

Speaking of ocean water, the Boom 3i is obviously much more durable in that regard compared to the competition. Anker says that thanks in part to the coating on the outside of the speaker, the Boom 3i can withstand exposure to salt water for much longer than competitors. In particular, Anker claims that the Boom 3i will remain “corrosion-free” for up to two years, while “other” speakers can begin to deteriorate after just five months. In addition to the emphasis on buoyancy, the Boom 3i also has some drop resistance and can withstand drops to concrete from a height of up to 1 meter (3.28 feet), can be submerged in water to a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, and is IP68-rated for dust protection.

In addition to its durability, the Boom 3i also has 50 watts of audio, which is equivalent to 98 dB of volume and 16 hours of audio playback. This should be enough if you’re using this thing at a lake party or somewhere outdoors at a party. To add to the apocalyptic atmosphere, it also has an emergency alarm – if you ever get into trouble, it will make a noise “about as loud as the sound of a motorcycle” to let you know you need help. There’s also a voice amplifier that lets you transmit messages loudly, and a “Buzz Clean” feature that vibrates the speaker to clean it of sand and dust. Considering all this rugged, apocalypse-proof stuff, the Boom 3i won’t come cheap at $189, but if you’re looking for something that can save your ass when the Waterworld comes, it might be worth every penny.
