China launches new test communications satellite

China sent a new satellite into space on Tuesday to test communications technology from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwestern Sichuan province.

The satellite, launched at 2:09 a.m. (Beijing time) aboard a Long March-3C rocket, successfully entered the planned orbit, the launch center said.

The satellite will be used mainly for testing multi-band and high-speed communication technologies.

The launch was the 575th mission of the Long March series launch vehicle, the center reports.
