The number of sales of used Tesla cars has increased dramatically

More and more Tesla owners are putting their old cars up for sale as consumers react to Elon Musk’s political activities and the global protests he has sparked.

In March, the number of used Tesla cars listed for sale on Autotrader.com skyrocketed, Sherwood News reports, citing data from Autotrader’s parent company, Cox Automotive. These figures were especially high in the last week of March, when an average of more than 13,000 used Teslas were put up for sale. This is not only a record, but also 67% more than in the same week a year earlier.

At the same time, sales of new Tesla cars have slowed down, even as sales of electric vehicles from other brands are growing. According to the latest Kelley Blue Book report, nearly 300,000 new electric vehicles were sold in the United States in the first quarter of 2025, up 10.6% year-on-year. Meanwhile, Tesla’s sales fell in the first quarter, down almost 9% compared to the same period in 2024.

Automakers such as GM and Hyundai are still lagging behind Tesla. But they are showing growth. For example, according to Kelley Blue Book, GM brands sold more than 30,000 electric vehicles in the first quarter, almost twice as many as a year ago.
