The popular Nintendo DS emulator Drastic has disappeared from the Google Play store, according to Android Authority. It is currently unclear why the application disappeared, but it is likely that its removal was initiated by the developer, not Nintendo.
Developer Exophase made Drastic freely available last year and indicated that it planned to remove the app from Google Play and make its code open source, although it seems that this never happened. The announcement came after Nintendo signed a deal with Switch emulator Yuzu and Nintendo 3DS emulator Citra, which the developer said did not affect its decision but accelerated its implementation.
The loss of Drastic is a blow to the broader emulator scene, which was hit by Nintendo’s legal actions against Yuzu last year. But despite this, there is now a thriving market for iOS emulators, thanks to Apple’s unexpected change in App Store rules last year.
