xAI starts offering Grok to US government agencies

A few days after apologizing for Grok‘s recent sharp turn toward anti-Semitism, xAI announced the release of a suite of artificial intelligence products for government agencies. Grok for Government brings together the company’s latest commercial products, including Grok 4 and Deep Search, with the specific needs of federal, state, and local governments in mind.

To this end, xAI says it will develop customized models for specific customers in the national security and research sectors. It will also develop specialized AI applications for use in healthcare, basic science, and national defense, as well as offer models that can be safely used in classified and restricted environments.

Although President Trump has threatened to cut off government subsidies to Elon Musk’s company due to their recent public feud, xAI says it already has a contract with the US Department of Defense. The company’s products are also available for purchase on the General Services Administration’s schedule, meaning that every federal government department, agency, or office can potentially access its models. OpenAI, which Elon Musk helped fund in its early days as a research lab through donations, launched ChatGPT Gov earlier this year.
