Twitch is now a defendant in X’s lawsuit against companies that stopped advertising on the social networking site. On Monday, X amended its lawsuit to include Twitch as a defendant in a federal court in Wichita Falls, Texas, Reuters reports.
The new complaint alleges that the Amazon-owned gaming streaming site stopped buying ads on X in late 2022. X claims that Twitch and other companies colluded with the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) initiative of the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) to withhold “billions of dollars in advertising revenue” from Elon Musk’s social media company.
The plaintiff alleges that the boycott violates federal antitrust laws and is seeking a jury trial to resolve the issue. GARM also announced the suspension of its operations two days after X filed the lawsuit.
X Corp.’s joint lawsuit, first filed in August, also includes WFA, global food manufacturer Mars Incorporated, pharmacy chain CVS, and Danish energy company Ørsted A/S over the advertising boycott. X has also filed a lawsuit against Media Matters, a media monitoring group, for publishing a report showing that X’s ads were placed next to anti-Semitic content on the platform.
