WhatsApp is improving its work features. On Thursday, the Meta-owned company introduced new group call features. The main one is the ability to schedule team calls in advance.
Starting today, you can schedule future calls in the Calls tab. There, click the + button and select Schedule a Call. This will also allow you to invite colleagues or friends.
You can keep track of your upcoming meetings in the same Calls tab. There you will also find a list of participants and links to calls. (Link creators will receive notifications when someone joins the call.) You can also use these call links to add a meeting to your calendar. Each participant will receive a notification when it is time for the meeting to start.
WhatsApp is also adding several other features that bring it closer to Zoom or Google Meet. There is a new “raise your hand” option to let the group know you want to speak. You can also send reactions using emojis. These are standard features for work calls, but they are new to the platform, which started in 2009 as a simple messenger.
