Vega's CEO also heads Freenet within Vodafone

Vodafone Ukraine has completed the acquisition of Freenet, a broadband Internet access operator that provides services under the O₃ brand. The purpose of the acquisition is to further develop the fixed-line business, which Vodafone Ukraine launched with the purchase of national telecom operator Vega in September 2021.

For the time being, Freenet subscribers will continue to receive all services at the current tariffs and in full, with service continuing and support available.

Sergiy Skrypnikov has been appointed as the new CEO of Freenet, having already successfully integrated Vega’s business processes into Vodafone Group in a similar position. Sergey Skrypnikov will simultaneously lead both companies.

“For almost two years now, the consolidation of Vega’s fixed-line expertise and Vodafone’s innovative technology experts has been contributing to the active development of Ukraine’s technological society,” he said.

With the support of the Group, the operator continues to build new GPON segments in the regional centers of Ukraine. Expanding its coverage despite the war, the company is actively connecting subscribers to high-speed and secure Internet that works even when there is no power.

According to Skrypnikov, the company has not only saved jobs and expanded its team, but also implemented a number of programs to develop and motivate staff. At the same time, the company promptly restores and modernizes networks and equipment after the Russian aggressor’s shelling, provides uninterrupted modern communications to critical infrastructure and helps the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“This is only part of the result of the joint efforts of Vega and Vodafone. Synergy with one of the leaders in the telecommunications market will also open up a number of new opportunities for Freenet’s users and employees. Together, we will continue to develop the company’s key business areas, focusing on modern communication technologies and customer service,” said the CEO.

The development of fixed-line communications remains one of Vodafone‘s strategic priorities in the coming years. In 2021, the group announced plans to increase its presence in the market both by acquiring fixed-line assets and building its own network.
