At the initiative of the Ministry of Digital Transformation and with the support of international donors, Ukraine has received 508 Tesla Powerwall systems. These devices are capable of powering critical and social infrastructure facilities despite city blackouts.
How they work
- The principle of operation is similar to power banks. Tesla Powerwalls are charged by electricity and can provide energy for 12-14 hours.
- The devices are also capable of charging from solar panels. This extends the operating time by several days.
Life and communication
Last year, 50 Tesla Powerwalls provided de-occupied towns in Kyiv region and frontline cities in Donetsk and Mykolaiv regions with access to electricity. This allowed kindergartens and hospitals to operate and people to call their families.
They will help doctors save lives, teachers teach classes, and Ukrainians stay connected thanks to the uninterrupted operation of Starlink in some locations.
Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov said:
“WE CONTINUE TO ENGAGE THE BEST TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS THAT WILL HELP UKRAINE GET THROUGH THE AUTUMN AND WINTER PERIOD WITH CONFIDENCE.”
Ukraine received the new Powerwall systems free of charge. The initiative of the Ministry of Digital Transformation was supported by the Polish government, Tesla, Direct Relief and the Yevhen Pivovarov Charitable Foundation.
