Ukraine and the EU to strengthen defense of cloud services

Deputy Head of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine Viktor Zhora took part in an online roundtable in Bucharest on the certification of cloud infrastructure (EUCS – European Cybersecurity Certification Scheme for Cloud Services) and its impact on strengthening resilience and cybersecurity in the countries of the Three Seas Initiative.

He expressed his gratitude to the global cloud service providers present for their assistance to Ukraine and for hosting government information systems in cloud environments. This made it possible to ensure the resilience of the infrastructure and the continuity of services to citizens and businesses after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops.

Participants also discussed the importance of establishing uniform requirements for cloud providers.

“Ukraine aims at fruitful cooperation with the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA). We have already approximated our regulation in this area to EU standards and are working on further adaptation of our legislation to the European one,” said Viktor Zhora.

The State Service of Special Communications is a central executive body that forms and implements state policy in the provision of cloud services, the development of which in Ukraine is one of the priorities of the Service. The SSSCIP also develops requirements for cybersecurity of critical information infrastructure.

As a reminder, on September 6, 2023, Ukraine became an associate member state of the Three Seas Initiative, which unites 12 countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Hungary.
