Tinder adds new categories to find like-minded people

Tinder is updating its Dating page with new categories to help you find people with similar relationship goals. With the update, you can now browse profiles in groups such as Serious Dating, Long-Term Partner, Not Monogamous, and Short-Term Fun.

The dating app notes that you can only get into the “Serious Relationship” category if you have a bio, have uploaded at least four photos, and have set a long-term relationship goal. In 2021, Tinder first launched its “Explore” page, which initially allowed you to browse profiles with similar interests, such as “Gamers,” “Pet Parents,” and “Binge Watchers,” and see matches that are “free tonight.”

Tinder isn’t the only dating app undergoing changes: last month, Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Hurd returned as CEO.

With these new relationship-oriented categories, Tinder seems to be trying to prevent dating app burnout by narrowing the pool of potential matches. It’s also a way for Tinder to diversify the dating experience, as more and more users are abandoning dating apps in favor of in-person meetings.
