Threads now has a separate setting from Instagram

Threads and Instagram continue to separate. The social network Meta has updated its hidden word settings to separate it from Instagram. Before this update, users had one global Hidden Words setting that affected both platforms.

For the uninitiated, the Hidden Words setting allows users to filter out content they don’t want to see. This option can be applied to posts, feeds, searches, profiles, and replies. The tool can filter words, phrases, and emojis.

Threads also offers the ability to postpone words and phrases for 30 days. This is really useful for avoiding spoilers or just when you’re tired of a particular topic of discussion. Today’s update even added the ability to filter words and phrases in batches. Threads CEO Adam Mosseri says that all of this was done so that users can “shape the experience in a way that makes them feel comfortable expressing themselves.”

When Threads launched in 2023, it was essentially an extension of Instagram. Over the past few years, the two platforms have been slowly gaining independence. Threads started testing its own DM inbox, which is not tied to Instagram, and now allows people to deactivate one account without affecting the other.
