Threads is working on scheduled publications

Threads is announcing another important new feature before the end of the year. The app will soon begin testing the ability for users to schedule posts in advance, according to an update from Meta CEO Adam Mosseri.

Mosseri shared a screenshot of the upcoming feature, which shows a simple tool for setting the date and time of a post in the Threads post editor. Interestingly, Mosseri said that users will only be able to schedule new posts, not replies to existing ones, as the company wants to continue to prioritize “real-time communication.” While he didn’t give any indication of when the tool might be launched more broadly, he did say that the feature has been in the works “for a few months,” so it’s likely that Meta plans to roll it out on a larger scale at some point.

The ability to schedule posts will be especially useful for brands, authors, and others who use the service to manage professional accounts. While there are already third-party tools that allow you to schedule posts, many of them require a paid subscription.

Scheduling posts is the latest sign that Meta is looking to add more features aimed at brands, businesses, and other social media professionals to the app with 300 million users. Earlier this month, the service also began testing post analytics. Both features may come in handy when Meta decides to enable advertising on the platform, which is rumored to happen next month.
