Meta’s competitor, Threads, continues to rapidly gain users, and now this social network has over 400 million monthly active users, according to Fast Company. Previously, Threads reached 300 million users in December 2024 and 200 million in August 2024.
FC also cited Similarweb data showing that Threads’ mobile metrics are approaching those of X. In June, Threads had 115.1 million daily active users on mobile devices, while X had 132 million. These figures represent a 128% increase for Threads compared to last year, but a 15% decline for X compared to the previous year.
When Meta launched Threads in 2023, Mark Zuckerberg set a goal to make it “an app for public conversations that will be used by over 1 billion people.” After its first year, the platform still had a lot of room for improvement in terms of users and features. But by 2025, Threads had added some pretty important features, such as private messaging and a greater emphasis on external links (though whether people will click on those links is another question).
