Robotic vacuum cleaners can make cleaning much more convenient, but depending on the layout of your home, they may not work on all floors. Chinese home appliance manufacturer Dreame is hoping to solve this problem with its X50 robot vacuum cleaner, which can navigate small steps on its own.
Although the robot vacuum cleaner hasn’t yet appeared on the U.S. market, it has already caused some excitement thanks to a teaser posted on YouTube last year (the X50 is already available in China). Now the $1699 X50 is making its US debut at CES 2025, and Dreame is offering a closer look at its capabilities.
Dreame claims that the X50 can climb stairs up to 6 cm (about 2.4 inches) high thanks to its “ProLeap system,” which relies on a motorized arm under vacuum that can turn and push it over the steps. While the X50 won’t be able to climb full-size stairs (the average staircase in a home is 7 to 8 inches high, according to Google), it will be able to maneuver over smaller steps and other obstacles that other robotic vacuums might trip over.
In addition to being able to climb stairs, the X50 can maneuver under furniture and recognize up to 200 types of objects, which helps it detect obstacles in its path. It also has a built-in hot water mop and a special brush to sweep up hair without tangling it.
Dreame will open pre-orders for the X50 on January 7, and those who pre-order will also receive an extended two-year warranty and an additional cleaning kit. The official sale of the vacuum cleaner on Amazon and the Dreame website will begin on February 14.
