The updated Siri will not be available until next spring.

Siri, which can do much more than just set a timer or record reminders, may not appear for at least another year. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple plans to release an updated version of Siri in the spring, which will be supplemented with a new App Intents feature. Gurman said that the updated Siri will perform more complex tasks in apps, such as commenting on Instagram posts, adding items to a shopping cart in a shopping app, or editing a specific photo and then sending it.

After the disappointment caused by the delay, Apple is trying to make up for lost time in order to fulfill its previous promises to improve Siri. According to Gourman, the company is testing App Intents not only with its own apps, but also with third-party apps, including AllTrails, Amazon, Facebook, Threads, Temu, Uber, WhatsApp, and YouTube. Regarding apps that handle more sensitive information, such as banking apps, Gurman noted that Apple may consider certain restrictions or completely avoid using these apps for App Intents.

Apple first demonstrated this smarter Siri during WWDC 2024, where Apple Intelligence was the focus of the annual conference. However, the company postponed the release of the updated Siri in March, explaining that “these features will take longer to implement than we thought” and adding that the updates will be implemented “next year.” Apple was even sued for false advertising after releasing a TV commercial featuring Bella Ramsey showcasing new Siri capabilities that were not available to the public after the release of the iPhone 16.
