ony Lythia LYT-900: camera sensor expected in Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Find X7 Pro

Sony has secretly introduced a new promising camera sensor, the Lytia LYT-900. Although an official press release has not yet been issued, information has been posted on the official Sony Lytia Weibo page, which provides a glimpse of its specifications.

Sony Lythia LYT-900 announcement

The LYT-900 is the top-of-the-line model in Sony’s LYT series of touchscreen cameras. It features a 50-megapixel inch sensor with individual pixels measuring 1.6 microns. This means that the sensor size is 16.384 mm (diagonally).

LYT-900 also uses CMOS technology, which means it has two separate layers – one for the transistor and one for the photodiode. This allows the use of physically larger diodes, which in turn capture more light, resulting in exceptional image quality, especially in low light conditions.

Rumor has it that the LYT-900 is an improved version of Sony‘s existing IMX989 sensor, which is already used in top devices such as Xiaomi 13 Ultra and Vivo X90 Pro.

The first phone to feature the LYT-900 remains unconfirmed, but speculation points to the upcoming Oppo Find X7 Pro. The Find X7 Pro is expected to hit the market alongside the Find X7 in January 2024, and is rumored to boast an impressive set of four cameras, including the LYT-900 primary sensor. It will be joined by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and two telephoto lenses with 3x and 6x optical zoom.

Other potential LYT-900 recipients include Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Vivo X100 Pro+. While Xiaomi’s flagship is rumored to be unveiled in April alongside the Xiaomi Pad 7 and Xiaomi Mix Flip, there have been some delays with the Vivo X100 Pro+. Initially, it was expected to appear in March or April 2024, but now there are rumors of its appearance in the first half of the year.

The LYT-900 sensor was followed by the LYT-800 sensor, which is used in several flagship smartphones released recently, including OnePlus 12 and Realme GT 5 Pro.
