Sonos is embarking on a restructuring plan that will see the company cut about 200 positions. Interim CEO Tom Conrad made the announcement during a call with the team and then shared the news in a public statement.
Conrad said that the company is “reorganizing our product organization into functional groups for hardware, software, design, quality, and operations, and eliminating dedicated business units dedicated to individual product categories. With this simplified organization, cross-functional design teams will come together to improve our core expertise and create new products.”
Sonos has suffered financial losses and lost its reputation in the public eye after launching a poorly received redesign of its app last year. In August, the company already laid off 100 employees. Since then, CEO Patrick Spence and Chief Product Officer Maxime Bouvat-Merlin have also left, and the company has changed some of its product plans. Yesterday, rumors surfaced that Sonos might release a new streaming set-top box in the coming months.
