Snapchat is launching a new way for users to let their friends and family know they’re back home after an outing, called “Home Safe,” the social network announced on Thursday.
To use this feature, you need to indicate your home location by tapping your Bitmoji on Snap Map and then “My Home.” When you’re out and about and want to let a friend know when you’re back home, open the chat, tap the map icon, and then tap the Safe Home button.
Your friend will receive an automatic notification in your chat as soon as you get home.
Snapchat notes that notifications can only be sent to friends with whom you have already shared your location. Additionally, since location sharing on Snap Map is disabled by default, no one will be able to see your location or receive a Home Safe notification unless you choose to share it.
“Whether you’re returning from a first date, a packed concert, or a weekend getaway, Home Safe can give a close friend or family member the peace of mind that you’ve arrived home safely,” Snapchat said in a blog post.
This new feature comes two months after Snapchat announced that Snap Map now has more than 400 million monthly active users.
Snap Map, which was launched in 2017, was originally a way for users to see the location of their friends and view public snaps from around the world. Over time, the feature has evolved to offer users ways to discover local hotspots and find things to do.
