Russian crew has been selected for Mars-500 experiment, which is to simulate 520-day mission to the Red planet. The experiment is to begin in Institute of Bio-Medical Problem in Moscow in March, IBMP press secretary Pavel Morgunov told for RIAN.
“ESA also selected European participants, however they were not introduced to us”, Morgunov said. He added that “there might be a Chinese crew member”, to be confirmed later.
This session is to become the last one in the Mars-500 series. The 105-day martian mission simulation was carried out at IBMP last year.
The main objectives of the experiment is to study crew’s physical and psychological adaptation to the flight environment, which implies autonomous habitation and operations; to study crew-ops personnel communication features; to verify ECLS and scientific equipment.
