RETN, a leading international network services provider, announces the completion of a major upgrade of its data routes and is now able to deliver 400 Gbps of bandwidth over a single optical interface across its extensive fiber network worldwide.
Thanks to a long-standing partnership with telecom service provider Infinera, RETN has implemented state-of-the-art technology and significantly increased network capacity across all European routes.
The high-performance optical transport solution, including the ICE6 optical engine, the compact GX G42 modular platform and Infinera’s FlexILS open optical line system, is now deployed to meet customers’ needs for ultra-high capacity, lower power and cost, and maximum spectral efficiency.
The transformational impact of 400G technology
Olena Lutsenko, Executive Director of RETN Ukraine and Black Sea Region, expressed her confidence in the transformational impact of 400G technology, noting:
“THE COMMUNICATIONS MARKET HAS REACHED A TIPPING POINT WITH THE TRANSITION TO 400 GBPS SINGLE-WAVELENGTH TECHNOLOGY.”
According to her, the company’s latest generation of Tier 1 bandwidth services have provided the industry’s best data service availability and also give businesses the opportunity to enjoy 100% guaranteed physical separation of fiber routes.
The company hopes that Ukrainian operators will be among the very first customers for this service for data transmission between Ukraine and Europe.

Fruitful cooperation
Nick Walden, Senior Vice President of Infinera, commented:
“INFINERA IS PLEASED TO PARTNER WITH RETN TO PROVIDE INDUSTRY-LEADING OPTICAL NETWORKING SOLUTIONS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO MEET THE GROWING DEMANDS FOR BANDWIDTH AND IMPROVE THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE.”
He believes that with the GX platform based on ICE6 and the FlexILS line system, RETN has a flexible, high-performance and scalable transport infrastructure optimized for the ever-changing needs of its customers.
In addition, RETN is upgrading its IP/MPLS network to 400 Gbps technology on the latest generation of Juniper equipment, taking a proactive approach to meet the growing global demand for IP traffic.
In one of the first 400G deployments, RETN successfully connected the Budapest Interchange Point (BIX) in Vienna to their core infrastructure in Budapest. This allows them to meet the growing demand for cross-border data exchange from the 90 members of the BIX.
In just a few weeks, RETN seamlessly upgraded the Budapest (T-Systems/Dataplex Invitech DC10)-Vienna DigitalRealty (Interxion) link from 100GE to 400 GE, ensuring uninterrupted data transfer during hot switching (i.e. without interruption to current services and therefore the business of the traffic exchange point). The improved infrastructure now allows BIX to scale its network and ensure future reliability.
Attila Mishori, member of the BIX Board, said:
“BIX APPRECIATES RETN’S ABILITY TO PROVIDE SERVICES ON 400 GBPS PORTS IN A SHORT TIME. WE APPRECIATE RETN’S PROFESSIONAL, PROACTIVE AND QUALITY-ORIENTED APPROACH.”
In his opinion, in an industry that is constantly evolving, it is very important to work with service providers such as RETN who understand the market and offer innovative solutions.
